Who we are

The National Housing Demonstration is organised by a coalition of housing organisations. London Renters Union acts as data controller for all personal data collected through this website.

What data we collect and why

Sign-up form

When you register for the demonstration, we collect your name, email address, and city. We use this information to send you emails about demonstration arrangements and logistics, to contact you after the demonstration to ask for feedback, and to let you know about ongoing housing campaigns. By signing up, you may receive updates about the demonstration and related housing campaigns from London Renters Union and other organisations that have endorsed the demonstration.

If you are based in a city where demonstration organisers are organising coach travel (as of March 2026, currently Sheffield, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, and Liverpool) members of the Travel Team may contact you about coach transport arrangements. Data sharing with Travel Team members will take place under the supervision of LRU.

The lawful basis for all of the above is legitimate interests: contacting you about the demonstration and related housing campaigns is the evident purpose of signing up, and we do not consider this to override your rights and freedoms as a registrant.

Coaches form

If you complete the coaches form, the Travel Team will use the information you provide to contact you about travel arrangements for your city. The lawful basis for this processing is legitimate interests.

Who we share your data with

Your data is held by London Renters Union. For the purposes of coordinating coach travel, your data may be shared on a limited basis with members of the Travel Team, made up of activists from endorsing organisations, operating under LRU’s supervision, so that they can contact you about arrangements.

We do not sell or share your data with any third party for commercial purposes.

We use the following third-party services to store and process data on our behalf:

  • Action Network — used to manage sign-ups and send emails
  • Zapier — used to connect and automate data workflows between our tools

Data processing locations

Data processing takes place primarily in the United Kingdom. However, as Action Network and Zapier are US-based companies, some data processing may occur in the United States. There is also a possibility that processing may occur in other countries where these processors operate infrastructure or where their staff are located.

How long we keep your data

Sign-up and coach registration data is kept for as long as is necessary to facilitate the demonstration and any direct follow-up, after which it will be deleted.

Mailing list data is retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

  1. Right of access. You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  2. Right to rectification. You can ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  3. Right to erasure. You can ask us to delete your personal data in certain circumstances.
  4. Right to restrict processing. You can ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.
  5. Right to object. You can object to our processing of your data where we rely on legitimate interests as our lawful basis.
  6. Right to data portability. You can ask us to provide your data in a portable format.
